Drone-Based Application of Microbial Biostimulants in Cereal and Horticultural Crops

Drone-Based Application

Bio-Nat Kft., a Hungarian company with over 30 years of experience in manufacturing microbial crop enhancers, has partnered with ABZ Innovation to explore the effectiveness of drone-based foliar treatments using its Mikro-Vital product line. The aim was to apply natural, bio-based formulations with precision and efficiency, supporting sustainable and environmentally conscious agriculture.

The trials involved the ABZ Innovation L30 drone equipped with CDA nozzles, delivering droplets of approximately 300–320 µm in size. Products were diluted in 10 liters of water and sprayed at a total volume of 10 liters per hectare. This setup allowed for uniform coverage with minimal water use, reducing soil compaction and enabling access to areas difficult to reach with traditional machinery.

Mikro-Vital Avanti, used during both experiments, is a biostimulant that activates the plant’s natural defense mechanisms through induced systemic resistance. This results in healthier and more resilient crops that can better withstand fungal pathogens and environmental stress. It also supports improved nutrient uptake and is suitable for both conventional and organic farming.

The first trial took place in Rém, Hungary, on durum wheat. Three application rates—1, 2, and 3 liters per hectare—were tested to observe the varying effects on plant health. The second trial was carried out at the MATE University experimental farm in Kerekharaszt on winter wheat, using a 2-liter per hectare dose. In both cases, the drone enabled precise and time-efficient application, with positive visual effects on the crop’s overall condition.

A second product, Mikro-Vital Hortus, was also evaluated for horticultural applications. Designed to support nutrient mobilization and provide biocontrol effects, it is versatile enough to be used in vegetable farms, orchards, turf planting, and even home gardens. It promotes healthier plant metabolism and extends shelf life in ornamental plants, making it a valuable tool for both professional and amateur growers.

These successful trials demonstrate how ABZ Innovation’s drone technology can bring microbial solutions to the field more effectively than ever, combining cutting-edge precision spraying with natural crop care.
