The ABZ Innovation L50 Smart Battery: Purpose-Built Power for Heavy-Duty Agriculture

Power That Keeps You Moving

When we set out to design the L50 drone, we knew that no off-the-shelf battery could meet the standard we had in mind. So we built our own.

The ABZ Innovation L50 Smart Battery is a fully custom-engineered power source, developed in-house to match the demands of real agricultural work. By transitioning from conventional LiPo cells to advanced Li-ion chemistry, we’ve achieved up to 35% higher energy capacity in a package that remains significantly lighter than comparable solutions available in the heavy-duty drone market.

Made in Europe. Designed without compromise. The L50 Smart Battery is the first agricultural drone battery of its kind manufactured in the EU — built with the latest available Li-ion cell technology, entirely in-house.

Smart Technology Inside and Out

Durability is built into every layer. The battery’s rigid casing is engineered to withstand the conditions of intensive fieldwork, while its stable internal chemistry ensures consistent, predictable performance across charge cycles.

At the core of the system is an intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) that safely optimises fast charging and extends the battery’s overall lifecycle. Paired with a built-in active fan cooling system, the BMS monitors and regulates thermal conditions continuously — not just during flight, but also throughout the charging cycle.

This active cooling approach directly addresses one of the most common causes of battery degradation: heat. By preventing overheating at both ends of the cycle, the L50 battery delivers safer, more reliable power — and lasts significantly longer in the field.

Class-Leading Flight Endurance

The L50’s proprietary battery technology enables the longest flight times in its class — and in classes above it. These aren’t theoretical benchmarks; they reflect real operating conditions:

~10–11 minutes: Hovering time at Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW / full tank)

~15–20 minutes: Operational flight time during active spraying

~4.1 hectares: Maximum area covered per fully charged battery

Greater coverage per battery means fewer stops, less downtime, and more work done when it matters.

Minimal Downtime. Maximum Efficiency.

In modern agriculture, every hour counts. The L50’s energy system is designed around one core priority: keeping you in the air.

This 40,000 mAh battery charges in approximately 20–25 minutes when connected to two 6,000W charging stations working in parallel. With the recommended four-battery setup, two units charge simultaneously while the others are in use — meaning a fresh, fully charged battery is always ready before the current one lands.

Despite its substantial capacity and robust build, the battery weighs just 12.6 kg (27.8 lbs). That balance between performance and weight isn’t incidental — it’s the result of deliberate engineering choices made to optimise flight dynamics without sacrificing endurance.

The First. Built in Europe. Built to Last.

The L50 Smart Battery holds a historic distinction: it is the first agricultural drone battery to be developed and manufactured entirely within the European Union — built using the latest available Li-ion cell technology at our facility in Szentendre, Hungary. It is part of the same European R&D and production ecosystem that underpins every ABZ Innovation product, and is covered under our full after-sales support framework with direct access to our technical team.

This is what it means to choose quality: not just a product that performs on day one, but a power system you can depend on throughout every season.
